SKIN CANCER PREVENTION
Skin Cancer Prevention: Welcome
MCC cannot be prevented but you can reduce the risk of developing all types of skin cancer by protecting your skin from exposure to UV (ultraviolet) light.
These are some ways to limit exposure to UV light:
- Limit your exposure to sunlight during peak hours - typically from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Apply appropriate & safe sunscreen products liberally while outside even on cloudy and cold days. Reapply sunscreen approximately every two hours, as instructed by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).
- Wear protective clothing while outside
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat, tightly woven clothing.
- Shield your eyes - wear sunglasses with UV light protection.
- Avoid tanning beds or sunlamps.
- Examine your skin regularly for any signs of change. *If you notice any skin changes, see your doctor as soon as possible.
